About Us

Our Philosophy
We understand that being referred to the periodontist can be a confusing and often misunderstood event. To that end, our philosophy is to provide a comfortable and nurturing environment that allows our patients to relax and become more educated about their overall dental health. An early periodontal referral can mean the difference between retaining and loosing a tooth.
Dr. Sayre-Carstairs limits her practice to periodontics, the science of preserving the supporting structures of the teeth, the periodontium. She believes that the body has an amazing capacity to heal itself when given an optimal environment. Dr. Sayre-Carstairs stays on the leading edge of non-surgical techniques to achieve that goal. Alteration of the amounts of certain types of bacteria in the mouth and the body’s reaction to these bacteria is an important part of early treatment.
In cases where there is not sufficient improvement to restore periodontal health from these procedures, Dr. Sayre-Carstairs uses state-of-the-art surgical techniques to achieve the best functional and esthetic results. The Biolase laser www.Biolase.com is used whenever possible since laser technology allows for the use of less anesthesia and often less recovery time.
Dr. Sayre-Carstairs’s goal is to restore the health of the mouth which will result in improved health of the entire body.

Lynn C. Sayre-Carstairs, DMD
Dr. Sayre-Carstairs is a 1982 graduate of Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA. Her BA degree is in psychobiology and her research focused on olfaction. Tufts University in Boston, MA awarded Dr. Sayre-Carstairs her DMD degree in 1986 and she immediately moved to Los Angeles to enter the periodontal program at the University of Southern California. |
After working as a periodontist in the Los Angeles area for 7 years, Coast Periodontics became available and in 1995 she moved to San Luis Obispo to take over the two offices, one in San Luis Obispo and the other in Paso Robles. Although there have been a number of address changes over the years, the same great service has always been provided. Dr. Sayre-Carstairs prides herself on being on the leading edge of periodontal research. To that end, Coast Periodontics has had a recent name change to reflect the next generation of periodontal treatment, lasers. We are now COAST PERIODONTICS and LASER SURGERY. You can learn more about the Biolase laser by linking to www.biolase.com.
Dr. Sayre-Carstairs and her husband, a life-long Central Coast resident, enjoy their three grown sons, grandson and look forward to the other grandchildren on the way. As the family grows, so do the interesting interactions that make life so worth living!
